The mother of all disaster on NYE 2010

New Years Eve, this is the single most important party all year, maybe even more important than your birthday party.

So I was brought in to market and sell the Monte Carlo NYE party @ Villa Mansion. When I first received the information, I was very excited because the event looked great. Everyone who knows me will tell you that I have been extremely fed up with Hollywood Nightclubs and in general, the Los Angeles club scene. I desperately wanted to offer something better to my clients so I decided to push the event.

I should have known to pull out and refund the tickets sold when the mansion advertised was replaced without my knowledge by what turned out to be a sub standard property.

These promoters were greedy and over sold tickets. Capacity should have been no more than 700 but instead tickets sold to over 1000 people at $100-$200 a piece. They had 20 tables set up but sold 30 tables at $1500 - $2500 a piece. They promised full premium bar but instead had cheap sponsored liquor brands with cheap red plastic cups. It turned out to be nothing more than a frat party.

eVita Parties was responsible for selling 5 tables and about 220 tickets to quality people includnig some doctors & surgeons, a Dubai Prince, top executives and inviting some international celebrities and publicists. Obviously, they all walked out immediately and left a voicemail with a tirade of four letter words.

What should have been a basic Will-Call set up did not exist. There were no plans to manage lines for the shuttle. They booked only six 12-sitter shuttles when they should have had 12. What made it worse was that we offered a 40 sitter party bus the night before but they were trying to save $500 even though they were making almost a million dollars.

Staffing was short by 50-75%, shuttle drivers were begging for tips, security were horribly dressed and bad mannered, entry to the property was not well controlled, servers looked trashy and inexperienced, to top it up, there were plasma screens in the property showing naked boxing on a porn channel which most of the female guests found upsetting.

Out of over 1000 guests, My 200+ guests and another 100 were very well presented and looked great. If those 300 were kept together on a seperate floor then it would not have been such a complete disaster. But they had to mix with some awful people and I dont think I have ever been so embarrased before in my entire life.

The property it self looked competely run down and badly maintained with only 3 bathrooms for over 1000 guests. I personally witnessed people openly pissing off the balconies and within the property.

NEW YEARS EVE

As a Local or as a tourist you are very likely to get scammed, caught up in chaos or end up in jail on New Years Eve in Los Angeles if you buy a ticket to the wrong Los Angeles New Years Eve event or from the wrong promoter.

Most clubs do not offer anything much more than they offer every week through the year. However, in LA on NYE they will charge 5 times their normal price, sell way too many ticket which is usually way higher than their legal capacity and some allow underage drinking. These always results in chaos outside the club, your promoter or ticket vendor disappears so you don’t get a refund and on very common occasions you will end up in jail for trespassing for parties at unlicensed venues, disorderly conduct for partying on the sidewalk and even more likely DUI if you decide to party in your car.

The best way to avoid the scam, the chaos and jail is to find a private party. In LA private parties can be expensive, much more unique, usually with an open bar, they can offer the best experience and they usually continue until sunrise with an exclusive and selective crowd. Private Party promoters can be extremely selective, they would usually want to see a picture of you or meet you before approving you to buy a ticket. Their selectivity usually results in the best experience in return for your money.

If you have that little extra cash and you want a new experience then you need to look for something different like say a Mansion Party, Penthouse Party, Yacht party or anything else that does not include a local bar or a nightclub but still with a great atmosphere.
